About the role#
The Church History Library offers a paid, part-time internship for individuals interested in the archival and historical field. This role involves working with archivists to review and prepare historical records for online publication. You will work 28 hours per week during regular business hours on-site in Salt Lake City. Interns must be enrolled in an educational institution or have graduated within the past year. Candidates must be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worthy to hold a temple recommend.
What you'll do#
- Assist volunteers in reviewing manuscript collections to identify sacred, private, and confidential information.
- Prepare assignments and audit the work completed by volunteers.
- Mentor and train volunteers on various tasks, including basic computer skills.
- Update and correct catalog entries and collection registers.
- Learn and apply department record access policies.
- Participate in directed readings regarding Church history and professional archival literature.
- Work under the direction of the Access Services team lead in the Archives and Area Support Division.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree in history or an allied field.
- Knowledge of historiography and sources related to LDS Church History.
- Ability to read cursive and difficult handwriting.
- Experience conducting research or working in an archive.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Experience with teaching or training in any setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Reader or Pro.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to present yourself professionally.
