About the role#
Service Engineering supports the Tesla service network by building the tools and procedures needed to maintain our vehicles. This team bridges the gap between field issues and product development. You will contribute to either the Toolbox platform, which technicians use for diagnostics and repairs, or the Onboard Diagnostics team, which develops firmware that runs directly on the vehicle.
What you'll do#
- Provide real-time diagnostic support for the service network.
- Develop and improve diagnostic tools and procedures.
- Identify top field issues and share feedback with development teams to improve current and future products.
- Maintain the primary diagnostic and repair platform used by technicians.
- Build diagnostic and repair firmware that runs on the vehicle.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Graduation date between August 2027 and August 2028.
- Software development experience, including software testing and automation scripting.
- Strong proficiency with Python and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with C++, Rust, and Go is a plus.
- Comfort working in Linux environments and system administration.
- Hands-on experience with vehicles or other hardware projects (Formula SAE or personal car work is a plus).
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Interest in troubleshooting failures, improving code quality, and optimizing system efficiency, monitoring, and observability.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, on-site, minimum 12 weeks.
- Compensation: $48.12 - $56.12 per hour plus benefits.
