About the role#
As a member of the Systems Modeling & Optimization team, you will work on the robotaxi simulation platform. This tool validates and develops fleet-management algorithms before they move to production. You will contribute to fleet orchestration and improve the simulation engine to support larger fleets and longer scenarios. Your work directly shapes the robotaxi customer experience.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement optimization algorithms for fleet orchestration, including matching, repositioning, and charging.
- Build automated validation pipelines to compare simulation outputs against production data and detect model drift.
- Profile and optimize simulation hot paths to improve runtime and memory usage.
- Implement memory optimizations to support multi-day scenario analysis at scale.
- Establish performance benchmarks and integrate them into CI to prevent regressions.
- Collaborate with teams to align simulation algorithms with production services.
- Communicate analysis results and algorithm tradeoffs to decision makers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related field.
- Graduation date between May 2027 and May 2028.
- Fluency with exploratory statistical analysis and testing on large data sets.
- A background in optimization techniques like linear or nonlinear programming, combinatorial optimization, and stochastic modeling applied to logistics.
- Experience designing and implementing optimization schemes for real-world systems.
- Proficiency in Python, including experience with performance profiling, memory management, or CPython extensions.
- Experience with Golang and collaborative code development is a plus.
- Ability to work hands-on and execute on open-ended projects.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $50.06 - $58.89 per hour plus benefits.
