About the role#
This internship offers exposure to complex transactional tax matters. You will work on indirect tax controversy issues across the United States and Canada. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Hayward, California, covering the Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Lead indirect tax controversy matters by managing multiple audits and drafting responses to tax authorities.
- Gather and evaluate information from various departments to support tax positions.
- Research and analyze tax law to draft legal memorandums and briefs.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to assess audit and litigation risk.
- Provide advisory support regarding new products, markets, legislative changes, and process improvements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 2L or 3L law student.
- Previous tax experience within a law firm, accounting firm, corporate legal department, or academic program.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage competing deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and research platforms such as Thomas Reuters Checkpoint or Bloomberg Tax.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A friendly and respectful approach to building professional relationships.
