About the role#
Terafab is building a vertically integrated semiconductor factory. This facility brings logic, memory, packaging, test, and lithography mask production under one roof. It is optimized for rapid iteration and compute density. As an intern, you will support the development and qualification of ion implantation processes for logic and memory devices.
What you'll do#
- Develop and qualify high-current, medium-current, and low-energy ion implantation processes.
- Optimize implant parameters like dopant species, energy, dose, tilt, rotation, and beam current to hit targets for junction profiles and sheet resistance.
- Qualify implant tools from installation through production readiness, including beam calibration, uniformity, and chamber matching.
- Analyze implant processes, dopant distribution, and device performance using physics-based approaches.
- Conduct root cause analysis for profile shifts, device variation, and yield issues.
- Establish inline metrology and control strategies to drive systematic yield improvement.
- Assist in the development of next-generation implantation techniques, such as plasma doping and advanced activation strategies for sub-2nm nodes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience with ion implanters and implant metrology.
- Proficiency in Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
- Ability to work proactively with diffusion, thin films, integration, and equipment engineering teams.
- Interest in vertically integrated semiconductor programs and high-performance compute technologies.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site.
- This is a paid internship program for students actively enrolled in an academic program.
About Tesla
Tesla produces electric vehicles, battery storage systems, and solar energy products. Founded in 2003, the company operates six vertically integrated factories across three continents. It is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and employs over 10,000 people. The organization designs, manufactures, sells, and services its products internally.
How to get in at Tesla
Applying early at Tesla provides a distinct advantage because recruiters review candidates before the applicant pool becomes unmanageable. Intern Insider sends an instant alert the moment a role matching your target is published anywhere, so you apply among the first and get seen before the pile grows. Reaching out to the right people often yields better results than submitting to a general queue. Intern Insider surfaces the recruiters behind the company roles so you can contact them directly to ask about the position or a referral, which materially improves your response rates.
