About the role#
The Store Executive Intern program is a paid, full-time, 40-hour per week training experience designed to prepare you for a career in retail leadership. Over the course of the summer, you will gain a realistic preview of the Executive Team Leader role by working alongside a mentor to understand store operations and management. This program focuses on developing your ability to lead teams, drive performance, and foster an inclusive culture within a retail environment.
What you'll do#
- Lead a retail team within a Target store while aligning daily business priorities.
- Work alongside a mentor to learn how to effectively lead a department and manage store operations.
- Drive guest experience by ensuring team members are knowledgeable and empowered to assist customers.
- Plan daily goals, organize operational plans, and provide summaries of results to the leadership team.
- Partner with other leaders to coach team members, address performance, and remove operational hurdles.
- Spend time on the sales floor and in the backroom to ensure a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment.
- Participate in ongoing development conversations and training activities throughout the internship.
What you'll need#
- A strong interest in retail management and a desire to develop leadership skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritize tasks independently.
- Previous retail experience is preferred but not required.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders and frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds.
- Ability to operate store technology, including handheld scanners and communication devices.
