About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in the design and coordination of Tampa Electric's distribution system. You will work on both new construction and maintenance projects, acting as a bridge between technical design and field execution. This role is based in Tampa, Florida, and is scheduled for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate distribution system projects from initial assessment to final construction.
- Establish and maintain relationships with customers and local agencies to define service requirements.
- Generate project work requests and manage them within the company's Work Management System.
- Perform technical analysis to ensure economical and reliable distribution solutions, including load calculations and voltage drop assessments.
- Design electrical features and update assets within the Geographical Information System (GIS).
- Produce construction prints, cost estimates, and CIAC calculations for field crews.
- Troubleshoot customer voltage complaints using recording instruments and investigate the integrity of distribution facilities.
- Interpret complex plans for infrastructure projects like road widenings and facility relocations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university as an undergraduate or graduate student in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Junior or Senior standing.
- Preference for students enrolled in a university co-op program.
