About the role#
This internship offers a mix of office-based engineering and hands-on industrial experience in the Melt Department. You will work directly with operators and maintenance teams on the production floor to apply engineering principles to equipment and systems. This role is a full-time, paid position based in Columbia City, Indiana, during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist with scrap analysis and alloy verification using spectrometry.
- Analyze production data to support melt shop operations.
- Participate in scrap recovery and process optimization projects.
- Gain experience in melting operations, including heat cycles and transfers.
- Validate lab results to contribute to quality assurance efforts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Materials Science or Engineering.
- A preferred GPA of at least 2.7.
- Experience with optical emission spectrometry (OES).
- Ability to collect and analyze production data.
- Experience collaborating with production teams.
- We also consider students majoring in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, Industrial, or Environmental Engineering, as well as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
