About the role#
This internship at New Millennium, a division of Steel Dynamics, offers hands-on experience in both design and field work. You will work on projects that impact production, safety, and infrastructure reliability. This role involves office tasks and site visits to active industrial environments, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of civil engineering in a manufacturing setting.
What you'll do#
- Support operations and projects using engineering principles.
- Design structural components ranging from foundations to building systems.
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and operations staff.
- Ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards.
- Participate in day-to-day engineering activities.
- Assess and design components like platforms, steel joists, girders, and deck solutions.
- Prepare field details for structural retrofits or repairs.
- Use AutoCAD for structural detailing and assist with destructive load testing.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or Environmental Engineering.
- A GPA of 2.7 or higher is preferred.
- Ability to perform hands-on work in an industrial environment.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with engineering and operating staff.
- A positive, team-oriented attitude and effective work practices.

- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid, full-time position.
- Housing is provided for interns living more than 50 miles from the work site.
