About the role#
This internship places you in an active manufacturing environment at our Structural and Rail Division. You will work directly with operations teams and corporate leadership to support environmental compliance and sustainability goals. This role focuses on hands-on problem solving, data analysis, and field inspections rather than observational tasks. You will gain experience in how environmental engineering impacts real-world industrial operations.
What you'll do#
- Maintain procedures and records for the Environmental Management System, covering air, water, waste, and radiation programs.
- Gather data and draft submittals to assist with environmental permitting and agency coordination.
- Collect and validate environmental data for emissions, water quality, and waste streams.
- Conduct field inspections of emission points, stormwater controls, and waste accumulation areas.
- Perform sampling and monitoring to verify permit compliance and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare regulatory reports, including emission inventories and discharge monitoring reports.
- Participate in root cause analyses for abnormal trends or exceedances.
- Track the performance of pollution control equipment like baghouses and scrubbers.
- Contribute to decarbonization, waste minimization, and water stewardship initiatives.
- Help prepare for audits by organizing documentation and participating in facility walk-throughs.
- Develop training materials and job aids for environmental requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering (with environmental emphasis), Chemistry, Geology, or Environmental Science.
- A minimum GPA of 2.7.
- Strong organizational skills for documentation and clear communication abilities.
