About the role#
The Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO) offers a 12-month fellowship for early-career policy professionals. This position provides a front-row seat to the legislative process in Oregon, offering hands-on experience and mentorship. The fellowship runs throughout the 2027 calendar year, beginning in January.
What you'll do#
- Assist with committee administration and workgroup management.
- Conduct policy research and development to support the policymaking process.
- Participate in internal LPRO projects.
- Provide nonpartisan research and staffing to support legislators, committees, and task forces.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- A graduate degree earned within the last five years in public policy, public administration, law, or a related field (specifically in education, housing, homelessness, land use, maternal and child health, or public health).
- Knowledge of Oregon’s governance structure and public policymaking foundations.
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a nonpartisan role and serve individuals with differing perspectives.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex assignments.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid position based at the Oregon State Capitol.
- The role follows a hybrid work schedule. During the legislative session (January to June), you will work in the office Monday through Friday. During the interim (July to December), you will work in the office on Wednesdays, with potential for additional in-office requirements based on project needs.
- The Oregon State Legislature does not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
