About the role#
Stantec is seeking a motivated Transportation Engineering Intern or Co-op to join the multi-disciplinary team at the New York City office. This position involves supporting transportation impact studies, traffic analysis, and travel demand modeling. The role is primarily office-based, though some field work may be required for data collection.
What you'll do#
- Assist with transportation impact studies, report preparation, and technical assignments.
- Gather traffic data through field visits and publicly available sources.
- Analyze traffic data using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Python, and MySQL.
- Conduct traffic analyses using HCS, Synchro, and VISSIM software.
- Support travel demand model calibration, validation, and scenario analysis using Cube and TransCAD.
- Provide support to roadway design and traffic engineering teams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, City and Regional Planning, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
- Knowledge of transportation software including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Cube, and TransCAD is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.
- Interest or experience in travel demand modeling is a plus.
