About the role#
Stantec is seeking a motivated Transportation Engineering Intern or Co-op to join the multi-disciplinary team at the New York City office. This position involves supporting transportation impact studies, traffic data analysis, and travel demand modeling. The role is designed for students interested in transportation planning and engineering who want to gain hands-on experience in technical analysis and project support.
What you'll do#
- Assist with transportation impact studies, report preparation, and travel demand modeling.
- Gather traffic data through field visits and publicly available sources.
- Analyze traffic data using Microsoft Excel, Python, and MySQL.
- Conduct traffic analyses using software such as HCS, Synchro, and VISSIM.
- Support travel demand model calibration, validation, and scenario analysis in Cube and TransCAD.
- Provide support to roadway design and traffic engineering teams.
- Perform additional technical assignments as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, City and Regional Planning, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
- Knowledge of transportation software including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Cube, and TransCAD is preferred.
- Experience or interest in travel demand modeling is a plus.
