About the role#
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking a GIS Student Intern to support the Mapping and GIS Section within the Data Collection Bureau. This role focuses on producing high-quality geospatial products and datasets that support water resource management and organizational decision-making. Interns gain hands-on experience through a year-round program designed to provide practical knowledge related to their field of study.
What you'll do#
- Assist staff and the public with map and data requests.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on Districtwide datasets, including orthoimagery and lidar.
- Complete tasks related to the preparation of Districtwide orthoimagery acquisitions.
- Support the development of new land use and land cover (LULC) analysis techniques.
- Edit and update historical permit data.
- Perform various GIS and survey-related activities as needed.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in an accredited college, university, or vocational program.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience creating maps in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Pro.
- Preferred experience includes editing workflows in ArcGIS Desktop, familiarity with LiDAR and orthoimagery, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Location & details#
- Location: Brooksville, Florida.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
- Schedule: Typically no more than 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
- This is a paid, non-sponsorship position.
