About the role#
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking a Field Services Student Intern to support the Regulatory Support Bureau. This role offers hands-on experience in regulatory, permitting, and compliance functions. You will work in both office and field environments, assisting staff with research, data management, and environmental inspections. This is a year-round internship with schedules that can be adjusted each semester to accommodate your classes.
What you'll do#
- Draft letters and reports regarding permit conditions, compliance, and internal memorandums.
- Compile and review data from files, databases, maps, and publications.
- Compare construction activity against approved plans and permit conditions to identify and summarize deviations.
- Attend meetings and participate in discussions regarding regulatory matters and noncompliance resolutions.
- Respond to or route citizen inquiries related to permitting and compliance.
- Assist with compliance inspections for Environmental Resource Permitting, Water Use Protection, and Well Construction programs.
- Conduct research to support team goals and permitting efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in high school, an accredited college, or a university.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to work in the field, which may include adverse weather conditions and remote or isolated sites such as wetlands or open water.
Location & details#
- Location: Bartow, Florida.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Compensation: $13.00 per hour for high school students; $16.00 per hour for college students.
