About the role#
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking a Field Services Student Intern to support the Regulatory Support Bureau. This role provides hands-on experience in regulatory, permitting, and compliance functions. You will work in an environment that balances office tasks with fieldwork, which may include remote or undeveloped sites and exposure to adverse weather conditions. This is a year-round, on-site internship with flexible scheduling available each semester.
What you'll do#
- Draft professional correspondence, including letters and reports for permit conditions and internal memorandums.
- Compile and review data from databases, maps, and established files.
- Compare construction activities to approved plans and permit conditions, document deviations, and prepare summary reports.
- Assist with compliance inspections for the Environmental Resource Permitting, Water Use Protection, and Well Construction programs.
- Attend meetings regarding regulatory matters and corrective actions.
- Respond to and route citizen inquiries regarding permitting and compliance.
- Conduct research to support team goals and permitting efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in high school, an accredited college, or university.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work on-site in the Bartow office.
Location & details#
- Location: Bartow, Florida.
- Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Compensation: $13.00 per hour for high school students, $16.00 per hour for college students.
- Travel: Infrequent travel within the District's coverage area using a District vehicle.
