About the role#
The Supervised Practice Experience (SPEP) is a partnership program between the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Ontario Health, and Southlake Health. This role is designed for Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) to demonstrate current nursing knowledge, skill, judgment, and language proficiency to meet CNO registration requirements. Interns work under supervision to provide direct patient care while modeling clinical excellence and adhering to hospital policies.
What you'll do#
- Provide patient and family focused care within the established scope of practice.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of patient health status.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluate its effectiveness.
- Practice collaboratively with members of the inter-professional health care team.
- Follow all hospital policies, procedures, and emergency codes.
- Clearly explain your status as a CNO applicant to clients and colleagues.
What you'll need#
- Successful completion of a nursing education program for RN or RPN.
- Recent experience practicing as a nurse.
- Successful completion of the nursing registration examination.
- Successful completion of the RN/RPN Jurisprudence Examination.
- Proficiency in English or French.
- Ability to demonstrate conflict resolution, problem assessment, and computer literacy skills.
- Commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and inclusive care.
- Legal authorization to practice nursing in Ontario.
