About the role#
SGH is looking for a student to join our Building Technology team in Oakland for the summer of 2027. You will work alongside licensed professionals to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. This is a full-time, paid internship that involves both office work and site visits.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, and condition assessments.
- Perform analysis using hand calculations and software under the guidance of licensed engineers.
- Support petrography staff by analyzing materials and developing test protocols.
- Collaborate with team members to conduct reconnaissance on existing structures and perform field tests.
- Prepare construction documents, specifications, and written reports for clients.
- Organize field data to help with research, problem solving, and repair design.
- Note that some tasks may require travel or working from heights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for civil engineering, structural engineering, architectural engineering, or architecture.
- A record of maintaining high grades in your studies.
- Strong communication skills.
- An interest in gaining hands-on experience within a consulting engineering environment.

- Location: Oakland, California.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $29.25 to $36.75 per hour, depending on your level of study.
- Bonus: A $1,000 sign-on bonus is provided.
