About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking students for a full-time Technical Intern Co-Op position in Waltham, Massachusetts for the Winter 2027 term. You will work alongside experienced professionals in the office and the field to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world structural engineering challenges.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations.
- Analyze materials, support petrography staff, and develop test protocols.
- Collaborate with engineers to perform reconnaissance on existing structures and conduct field tests.
- Perform analysis using a combination of hand calculations and analysis software.
- Assist with the preparation of client deliverables including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
- Organize field data and assist with research to support problem solving and repair design.
- Note that work may include travel and working from heights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering or Architecture program.
- Strong communication abilities.
- High academic standing.
- Interest in civil engineering, structural engineering, materials science, or architectural engineering.
- Enthusiasm for the challenges of developing sophisticated engineering work products.

- Location: Waltham, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid position. Undergraduate students earn $29.25 to $32.50 per hour, graduate students earn $33.75 to $34.75 per hour, and PhD students earn $36.75 per hour. Interns are eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
