About the role#

Shulman & Partners LLP is seeking an Articling Student for the Summer 2026 term in Ottawa. This role provides practical exposure to family law through a mentorship model, focusing on hands-on experience in file progression, legal research, and client interaction. The position is full-time and operates on a hybrid basis.

What you'll do#

• Support lawyers on active family law matters with ongoing mentorship.
• Conduct legal research, interpret legislation, and summarize case law.
• Draft court and settlement materials, including pleadings, affidavits, briefs, and correspondence.
• Assist with the organization and review of financial disclosure and preparation of financial statements.
• Prepare materials for mediations, conferences, motions, and trials.
• Attend court and dispute resolution processes for observation and participation.
• Communicate professionally with clients, counsel, and court staff.
• Collaborate with clerks and administrative staff to ensure accurate and timely task completion.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in an accredited JD program and eligibility to article in Ontario through the LSO.
• Strong judgment and the ability to manage sensitive client matters with confidentiality.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for interactions with clients, counsel, and internal teams.
• A high standard for accuracy in research, drafting, and reviewing evidence.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• A genuine interest in family law and a commitment to professional growth and feedback.

Location & details#

• Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
• Work Modality: Hybrid.
• Employment Type: Full-time, temporary.
• Compensation: $70,000 annual salary, prorated for the 10-month term.
