Articling Student

About the role#

Shulman & Partners LLP is seeking an Articling Student to join the Toronto office. This role offers practical exposure to family law through a mentorship model, providing guidance from senior lawyers to build competency and confidence. Students will work on active files, participate in file progression, and gain experience in court preparation.

What you'll do#

• Support lawyers on active family law matters with ongoing mentorship.
• Conduct legal research, interpret legislation, and summarize case law.
• Draft court and settlement materials, including pleadings, affidavits, briefs, and correspondence.
• Organize financial disclosure documents and assist in the preparation of Financial Statements.
• Prepare materials for mediations, conferences, motions, and trials.
• Attend court and dispute resolution processes for observation and participation.
• Communicate professionally with clients and coordinate with internal staff to ensure tasks are completed accurately.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in an accredited JD program and eligibility to article in Ontario through the LSO.
• Strong judgment and maturity to handle sensitive client matters with confidentiality.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for interactions with clients, counsel, and court staff.
• High standards for accuracy and thoroughness in research, drafting, and reviewing evidence.
• Strong organizational skills and reliability in meeting deadlines.
• A genuine interest in family law and a commitment to professional growth and receiving feedback.

Location & details#

• Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
• Work Modality: Hybrid.
• Employment Type: Full-time, temporary.
• Compensation: Annual salary of $70,000 (prorated for a 10-month term).
