About the role#
Shulman & Partners LLP is seeking an Articling Student for our Toronto office. This role offers practical exposure to family law through a mentorship model designed to build competency and confidence. You will work on active files under the guidance of senior lawyers, gaining experience in file progression, research, and client communication.
What you'll do#
- Support lawyers on active family law matters with ongoing mentorship.
- Conduct legal research, interpret legislation, and summarize case law.
- Draft court and settlement materials, including correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, and briefs.
- Prepare document briefs for mediations, conferences, motions, and trials.
- Assist with the review of financial disclosure and the preparation of financial statements.
- Attend court and dispute resolution processes to observe or participate as permitted.
- Communicate professionally with clients, counsel, court staff, and internal team members.
- Coordinate with clerks and administrative staff to complete tasks accurately.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited JD program and eligibility to article in Ontario through the LSO.
- Strong judgment and the ability to handle sensitive client matters with confidentiality.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A high standard for accuracy in drafting, research, and reviewing evidence.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- A genuine interest in family law and a commitment to professional growth.
Location & details#
- Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Employment Type: Full-time, temporary.
- Compensation: $70,000 annual salary (prorated for a 10-month term).
- Benefits: Includes extended health, dental, and mental health coverage, plus coverage for LSO licensing requirements per firm policy.
