About the role#
Shirley Contracting Company is hiring Summer Associates for the 2027 season. This program offers field and management exposure across civil, utility, bridge, and structure projects. Assignments range from $1 million to over $500 million in value. You will gain experience in project operations, networking, and professional development.
What you'll do#
- Learn how to acquire work by soliciting subcontractor bids, performing quantity takeoffs, and scoping bid packages.
- Assist field supervision with schedule planning, tracking daily quantities, receiving tickets, and reviewing foreman timecards.
- Manage project financials by administering subcontracts, reviewing payment requests, tracking change orders, and monitoring budgets.
- Handle project documentation including submittals and RFI management.
- Build professional relationships with customers and coworkers while learning company policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering degree program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, time-management, and organizational skills.
- A team-oriented mindset with leadership potential.
- A general understanding of or interest in the heavy highway and civil construction industry.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
