About the role#
We are hiring Summer Associates for the 2027 season to work on civil, utility, bridge, and structure projects. These roles provide exposure to both field operations and project management, with project sizes ranging from $1 million to over $500 million. You will gain experience in the business and financial side of construction while participating in networking and community service opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Learn how we acquire new work by soliciting subcontractor bids, performing quantity takeoffs, and scoping bid packages.
- Support field supervision with self-perform and subcontractor crews.
- Assist with schedule planning and management.
- Track daily quantities, manage tickets, and review foreman daily timecards.
- Administer subcontracts, review payment requests, manage submittals and RFIs, and track change orders and budgets.
- Build positive relationships with customers and co-workers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering or related degree program.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer of 2027.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- A desire to work in the heavy highway and civil construction industry.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, paid internship.
- Positions are available in Richmond, Hampton, Louisa, Chesterfield, and New Kent, Virginia.
- Hourly pay ranges from $18.00 to $23.00, depending on education, experience, and location.
