About the role#
The Global Economic Sanctions (GES) intern supports the RBC sanctions program. This role focuses on mitigating regulatory, reputational, and financial risk. You will assist the team in managing daily investigations and assessments while gaining exposure to international sanctions frameworks.
What you'll do#
- Review clients, assets, and transactions to identify potential sanctions risks.
- Ensure all client activity involving sanctioned countries, individuals, or entities complies with applicable regulations.
- Conduct research on geopolitical risk, proliferation finance, and anti-terrorist financing.
- Contribute to projects that improve GES team processes or technology.
- Build knowledge of Canadian, US, UK, and EU sanctions regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a program related to Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or Political Science.
- Experience in financial industry compliance, specifically within sanctions or as a payments analyst.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with sanctions regulations, guidance, and global geopolitics.
- Legal experience or proficiency in a foreign language is an asset.
- Technical skills in Python are a plus.
- Two years of experience in sanctions investigations operations is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid 4-month internship for Winter 2027 (January to April).
- The position is based in Toronto, Ontario.
- Work modality is hybrid/on-site.
- Candidates must be returning to school after the term or require this placement as a mandatory graduation component.
