About the role#
The US State and Local Tax (SALT) group is seeking a student for a 4-month co-op term starting in January 2027. You will work with a diverse range of clients, including public and private middle market companies and large multinational organizations. You will deliver consulting and advisory services to Canadian-owned US businesses on tax planning, compliance, and strategy. Because each state maintains unique rules and filing methods, you will help clients navigate complex obligations and optimize their tax positions.
What you'll do#
- Assist with state tax advisory engagements, such as nexus analyses, voluntary disclosures, and sales tax analysis.
- Support US SALT due diligence on potential acquisitions and transaction-related projects like restructuring.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with client stakeholders and internal teams.
- Stay current on state and local tax developments and share relevant insights with the team.
- Support day-to-day execution of workstreams across multiple engagements.
- Uphold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary program with a focus on Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to synthesize complex rules into clear conclusions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated interest in AI and emerging technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
