About the role#
This externship provides veterinary students with hands-on experience in a clinical setting. You will work under the direct supervision of a doctor to build your medical, surgical, and diagnostic skills. This program is designed to support your development as you explore future career paths in veterinary medicine.
What you'll do#
- Work closely with your mentor for guidance and professional development.
- Learn the components of a physical examination.
- Observe and assist during surgical procedures.
- Develop technical skills such as blood draws, urine analysis, and fecal analysis.
- Support your mentor with client communication and patient history reviews.
- Calculate drug dosages and fluid rates while creating treatment protocols.
- Maintain safety standards and follow medical protocols for all procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA accredited program.
- Proof of medical and professional liability insurance.
- Strong observational and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from your mentor.
