About the role#
This externship program offers veterinary students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a Vetco Total Care hospital. You will work under the direct supervision of a doctor to explore various medical, surgical, and diagnostic skills. This role is designed for students to grow their technical abilities and prepare for future career paths.
What you'll do#
- Work closely with your mentor to build veterinary knowledge and clinical experience.
- Learn the components of a physical examination.
- Observe surgeries and assist as you progress.
- Develop technical skills including blood draws, fecal and urine analysis, catheter setting, and ET tube placement.
- Gain an understanding of safety and restraint procedures.
- Participate in hospital procedures, such as reviewing patient histories, creating treatment protocols, and calculating drug dosages.
- Support your mentor with client communication and ensure compliance with medical safety protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA accredited program.
- Proof of medical and professional liability insurance.
- Strong observational and communication skills.
- A professional and respectful manner at all times.
- Initiative and a willingness to learn and take direction.
- Majors in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or Environmental Engineering.
