About the role#
Peraton is seeking interns for the Summer 2027 program. You will join one of our Strategic Innovation Centers to support research projects across communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, public safety, and health. This role operates in an Agile environment alongside full-time staff. You will spend ten weeks, from June to August, working 35 to 40 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Identify project requirements, relevant data, and key insights.
- Write code to clean data and create complex feature sets.
- Build and deploy models into production environments.
- Continuously evaluate model quality.
- Collaborate with full-time staff and project teams.
What you'll need#
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Progress toward a bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Foundational experience with Python, R, Spark, and SQL.
- Experience cleaning and processing data for model development.
- Hands-on experience with frameworks such as Tensorflow, Sci-kit learn, Numpy, PyTorch, Matplotlib, or Shap.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and concepts.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Familiarity with Agile processes, ETL pipelines, and distributed compute architectures like Kubernetes or Docker is a plus.

- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship.
- Positions are located in Herndon, Virginia, or Blacksburg, Virginia.
