About the role#
Peraton is hiring Software Engineering Co-ops to support the County of San Diego contract. This role runs from January 2027 through August 2027. You will work 40 hours per week in a hybrid arrangement. You will work alongside professionals on projects that modernize technology for public health, social services, and public safety.
What you'll do#
- Build and prototype software to help County departments improve efficiency.
- Use modern AI tools and AWS cloud services to deliver solutions.
- Contribute code and test ideas through rapid prototyping.
- Apply AI to the design, build, and delivery phases of software development.
- See your work move from concept to live use in a public-sector environment.
What you'll need#
- US Citizenship.
- A high school diploma and some advanced level training.
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience with Python or Java through coursework or projects.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming and Git.
- Experience with .NET/C#.
- Exposure to AWS services like Bedrock, CodeCommit, or Lambda.
- Experience building with generative AI APIs or AI coding tools.
- Familiarity with JIRA or ServiceNow.
- Evidence of rapid prototyping through hackathons, personal work, or open-source projects.

- Location: San Diego, California.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Pay: $28 to $38 per hour.
