About the role#
We are looking for an Industrial Engineer Intern to support our United States Postal Service Central Repair Facility contract in Topeka, Kansas. This is a full-time, on-site internship for the Summer 2027 term. You will work with our engineering, production, and quality teams to refine repair and refurbishment processes.
What you'll do#
- Apply engineering principles to improve workflow, throughput, and process efficiency.
- Conduct time studies and develop process flow diagrams.
- Optimize equipment layouts and workstation designs.
- Support continuous improvement projects using Lean methodologies and root-cause analysis.
- Collect and analyze production data to find improvement opportunities.
- Evaluate tooling and material handling solutions for better ergonomics.
- Update SOPs, job aids, and technical documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Industrial, Systems, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Graduation date after August 2027.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Postal Service security clearance, which is required to start.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar improvement tools.
- Experience with data analysis software like Excel or Power BI.
- Ability to work autonomously on complex projects.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.

- Location: Topeka, KS (on-site).
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $24.50 per hour.
- Requirement: Must be local to the Topeka area or able to commute daily.
