About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in industrial automation. You will work alongside engineers on projects that impact client operations. You will develop practical skills in PLC systems, data integration, and commissioning while learning from experienced professionals in the field.
What you'll do#
- Support on-site activities including system checks, startup assistance, and basic troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment.
- Assist with commissioning and qualification tasks by executing test procedures and documenting results.
- Design control panels using AutoCAD Electrical and support the shop team during fabrication.
- Collaborate with vendors by gathering information, tracking updates, and documenting issues.
- Prepare and organize documentation for validation, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Contribute to Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT initiatives through guided project tasks.
- Support engineering teams with data collection, research, and process improvement activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Sophomore or Junior in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Availability to work on-site in the Indianapolis area.
- A strong interest in automation, controls, PLCs, and industrial technology.
- Ability to work effectively in a team with engineers, technicians, and vendors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn.
- Good written communication skills and high attention to detail for reporting and documentation.
Location & details#
- Location: Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
