About the role#
As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to support the infrastructure projects necessary for California's power grid. This role focuses on substation projects, including capacity demand improvements and system reliability. You will gain exposure to the full scope of Substation Engineering Services while contributing to capital investment projects.
What you'll do#
- Promote safe work practices to meet department goals of zero injuries and avoidable auto incidents.
- Assist the Substation Civil Engineering team with the design of steel structures, structure retrofits, reinforced concrete foundations, equipment anchorage, access roads, storm water mitigation, and grading layouts.
- Support environmental compliance efforts by updating Spill Prevention Containment and Countermeasure plans and spill containment system designs.
- Develop proficiency in industry-standard engineering software including AutoCAD, SAP2000, Hilti Profis, and L-Pile.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments such as Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, and Distribution Planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program for Civil Engineering or a relevant field at an accredited university.
- Commitment to return to school following the completion of the internship.
- A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
- Possession of an EIT or FE certification.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Term: Summer 2026.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (in-office presence required at the discretion of the hiring leader).
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel within the service territory is expected.
- Employment Type: Full-time, paid internship.
