About the role#
Okanagan College is hiring a Peer Mentor to support Indigenous Access Services (IAS) at the Salmon Arm campus. This role involves working under the supervision of the IAS Coordinator and the Indigenous Transition Planner to support fellow students and maintain the Indigenous Centre. This is a paid, on-site student position for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Participate in mentor training, regular meetings, and check-ins with IAS staff.
- Welcome visitors and share information about Indigenous Access Services.
- Connect with students in the Indigenous Centre and encourage participation in social events.
- Help peers navigate the college environment.
- Organize and tidy the Indigenous Centre on a regular basis.
- Assist with and attend campus and IAS events.
- Submit completed student help forms to your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current registration in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College.
- Completion of at least 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program.
- A basic understanding of Aboriginal people and culture.
- Proficiency with the internet and Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
- A prompt, self-motivated, and cheerful attitude.
- Prior work experience is an asset.

- Term: Fall 2026 (September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Priority is given to students who demonstrate financial need.
