About the role#
This project examines how contemporary Human Resource Management practices in Canada reflect or challenge colonial assumptions. The research focuses on leadership, recruitment, selection, and performance management. You will help synthesize existing peer-reviewed literature to identify themes, critiques, and emerging decolonizing approaches. This position is a literature-based role and does not involve primary data collection or interviews. You will receive mentorship and training in academic research methods, data extraction, and thematic analysis.
What you'll do#
- Develop and document literature search strategies and maintain search logs.
- Search for, organize, and manage relevant peer-reviewed scholarly literature.
- Screen articles using inclusion and exclusion criteria.
- Create and maintain an annotated bibliography.
- Use data extraction templates to record key information from selected studies.
- Organize and code extracted information to prepare thematic analysis summaries.
- Contribute to a final literature synthesis report.
- Prepare materials for conference presentations, including slides, posters, and research summaries.
- Maintain accurate research records, citations, and confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Okanagan College.
- Strong reading comprehension, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet agreed timelines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to receive feedback.
- Willingness to learn academic databases and research tools.
- Ability to engage respectfully with research on colonialism, reconciliation, and Indigenous perspectives.
- Preference for students enrolled in Business Administration or related programs.
- Interest in Human Resource Management, Organizational Behaviour, or workplace equity is an asset.
- Previous research experience is helpful but not required.
Location & details#
- This position is based at the Kelowna campus and offers hybrid or remote work arrangements.
- The term runs from January 4, 2027, to March 31, 2027.
- The role is funded for 100 hours of research work, averaging 7 to 9 hours per week.
