About the role#
The Fanshawe Student Union is hiring a part-time Line Cook for a contract running from October 2026 through April 2027. This position involves up to 25 hours of work per week. You will report to the Hospitality Supervisor and work primarily at the Outback Shack, though you may float to other venues like the Oasis based on staffing needs.
What you'll do#
- Set up and stock your workstation to meet daily operational demands.
- Prepare and cook menu items following established recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area that meets food safety standards.
- Monitor food quality and minimize waste using approved preparation methods.
- Assist with kitchen operations, including dishwashing, garbage removal, and receiving food deliveries.
- Support other Hospitality operations as needed.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of prior experience as a line cook.
- A valid Safe Food Handler Certificate.
- Fanshawe College Work Study eligibility is preferred.
- Ability to adapt to fluctuating service volumes and work under pressure.
- Willingness to be cross-trained across all hospitality stations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of safe food-handling, hygiene, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to handle customer concerns professionally.
- Basic computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, and email.
- A strong work ethic and professional appearance.
