About the role#
As an Engineer Intern at Kirby Building Systems, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting the daily responsibilities of a full-time design engineer. You will assist the Engineering Department with various production-related projects while learning how to design building components from the base plate up. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position based in Portland, Tennessee.
What you'll do#
- Determine building loads and trace load paths through structures.
- Use proprietary design software to execute design tasks.
- Develop components that are both structurally sound and economically viable.
- Collaborate with diverse teams to fabricate products.
- Participate in team initiatives and professional development opportunities.
- Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program for Civil or Architectural Engineering at an ABET-accredited school.
- Proficiency in verbal and written English.
- Training or experience in statics, structural analysis, and steel design.
- Training or experience with CAD software.
- A degree emphasis in structures.
- Leadership experience within clubs or organizations.
