About the role#
This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027. You will work within the regulatory affairs team, focusing on how government policy and utility operations impact infrastructure and customer outcomes. This role is based in Chester, Virginia, and requires you to reside within 50 miles of the reporting location.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and summarize activities of the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the Virginia General Assembly, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Conduct research on legislative, policy, and regulatory issues that affect utility operations.
- Assist in preparing regulatory filings, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Support regulatory proceedings by gathering data, tracking case activity, and summarizing Commission orders.
- Analyze proposed legislation and regulations to prepare impact summaries for internal stakeholders.
- Maintain regulatory records, filing systems, and data repositories.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support regulatory initiatives.
- Participate in special projects related to renewable energy policy, broadband deployment, infrastructure investment, and economic development.
- Assist with compliance tracking and regulatory reporting.
- Prepare presentations, briefing materials, and executive summaries.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program as a rising junior or senior.
- Field of study in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Communications, Law, or Engineering.
- Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines.
- Interest in utility regulation, energy policy, or government affairs is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Virginia legislative process or data analysis tools like Power BI is a plus.
- Previous internship or leadership experience is preferred.
