About the role#
The Next Gen team at Neuralink develops brain-computer interfaces to help people with neurological conditions. As a Biomedical Engineer intern, you will work with scientists and engineers to develop new ideas, materials, and processes for our next generation of implants. You will tackle a wide range of engineering problems while working in an interdisciplinary environment.
What you'll do#
- Interact with technical teams to develop new materials and processes.
- Explore innovative concepts through benchtop testing and result analysis.
- Contribute to the development of next-generation microelectrode materials.
- Partner with the microfabrication team to move concepts from ideas to hardware.
- Develop solutions for electrode-tissue interfaces to improve sensitivity and longevity.
- Perform materials characterization and surface chemistry experiments.
- Design and fabricate custom test fixtures for new experiments.
- Execute established protocols and design new experiments as project needs arise.
- Troubleshoot, iterate, and communicate findings to the team.
What you'll need#
- Evidence of exceptional ability in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of academic or industry experience.
- Strong understanding of the scientific method and engineering first principles.
- Experience with chemical handling and safe lab practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD software.
- Familiarity with surface characterization techniques like contact angle, FTIR, XPS, or AFM.
- Experience with microscopy and electrochemistry.
- Outstanding communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
