About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting in pharmacy operations under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This is a casual, as-needed position designed to support institutional drug distribution and patient care. You will work in a team environment to ensure medications are prepared, managed, and delivered accurately while maintaining patient confidentiality and safety standards.
What you'll do#
- Triage medication requests and determine priorities for pharmacist review.
- Perform aseptic compounding of sterile dosage forms and prepare parenteral admixtures.
- Manage the unit dose area and operate pharmacy automation equipment, including carousels and packagers.
- Assist with the record keeping and dispensing of controlled substances and non-formulary drugs.
- Prepare, package, and label drug products as required.
- Address and fill crash carts, anesthesia kits, and other trays.
- Manage medication orders through the pharmacy computerized system.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new pharmacy staff.
- Communicate effectively with the health care team and handle telephone inquiries.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Current admission to a nationally recognized School of Pharmacy program.
- Registration with the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services as a Pharmacy Intern (RPHI.NE) prior to your start date.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- No current drug or alcohol addiction or convictions of any drug-related misdemeanor or felony.
- Proficiency in basic chemistry, arithmetic, algebra, reading, and writing.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate medication requests.
- Ability to perform medium work, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Casual position with variable hours. This role requires one evening shift per week and every other weekend.
