Overview: Navitas is ready to invest in you! We are currently seeking a Product Engineering Intern to join our team for a Fall 2027 internship. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Product Engineering Intern to support the development and manufacturing of advanced lithium-ion battery systems. This role provides hands-on experience in product design, validation, manufacturing support, and cross-functional collaboration within a fast-paced battery manufacturing environment. The intern will work closely with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to help improve product performance, reliability, and scalability.
Responsibilities: Support design, validation, and release of lithium-ion battery modules and pack componentsAssist in conducting performance testing, validation testing, and failure analysis of battery cells and systemsAnalyze test data using tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or Python to identify trends and recommend improvementsCollaborate with manufacturing engineering to resolve production issues and implement process improvementsCreate and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, drawings, test plans, and reportsParticipate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action initiativesSupport prototype builds and pilot production runsAssist in DFMEA, PFMEA, and design reviewsEnsure compliance with safety and regulatory standards related to lithium-ion battery systems
Qualifications: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsBasic understanding of lithium-ion battery fundamentals (electrochemistry, thermal management, BMS concepts)Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python) preferredFamiliarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) is a plusStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work on-site in Ann Arbor, MI Learning OutcomesBy the end of this internship, the candidate will:Gain hands-on experience in lithium-ion battery product development and manufacturingDevelop skills in cross-functional engineering collaborationUnderstand the full product lifecycle from prototype to productionBuild technical competency in battery performance validation and root cause analysis
