About the role#
The Provenance Intern works with the Assistant Curator of Mediterranean Art and Provenance to standardize records in the collections management database. You will create initial entries for selected objects across the museum collections. This role offers experience with The Museum System (TMS) and provides an introduction to museum documentation standards, record-keeping, and research methodologies.
What you'll do#
- Review existing provenance records in the collections database.
- Identify entries that do not meet institutional standards.
- Document objects with missing or incomplete provenance information.
- Verify details using museum archives, publications, and other research resources.
- Update and format records to align with best practices.
- Create initial provenance entries for selected objects.
- Assist with data management and quality control.
- Categorize artworks that require further research.
- Prepare reports and summaries regarding provenance initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current studies or a background in History or Art.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Research and data analysis capabilities.
- Ability to critically evaluate information.
