About the role#
This is a 12-week internship within the Clinical Pharmacogenetics group. You will work on projects that apply human genetics and pharmacogenomics to drug development. The team focuses on generating genetic evidence to support biomarker strategies and understanding how treatment responses vary. You will contribute to translational research initiatives and gain experience in a professional research environment.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and interpret genomic and pharmacogenomic datasets using computational approaches.
- Evaluate data from genomic technologies, including array-based, short-read, and long-read sequencing.
- Develop analytical workflows to support genomic characterization.
- Collaborate with scientists across disciplines to generate biological insights.
- Communicate your findings through reports, scientific presentations, and reproducible documentation.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Human Genetics, Genomics, Pharmacogenomics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- You must be enrolled in an academic program and returning to your studies after the internship ends.
- Experience analyzing genomic or next-generation sequencing data.
- Familiarity with common bioinformatics file formats like FASTQ, BAM/CRAM, VCF, and FASTA.
- Proficiency in Python, R, or other scientific programming languages.
- Experience working in Linux/Unix environments.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- It is preferred that you have familiarity with pharmacogenomics resources like PharmGKB, PharmVar, or CPIC.
- Experience with high-performance or cloud computing environments is a plus, as is experience with long-read sequencing technologies or haplotype analysis.

- This role is based in South San Francisco, California.
- The position is on-site and full-time.
- The internship lasts up to 12 weeks.
