About the role#
The Minnesota Historical Society is looking for an intern to join our Special Collections team. You will spend the term working in an active archival environment. You will support public access to our collections, develop research guides, and analyze reference tools. This role offers the chance to shadow staff across various departments and build professional contacts within the library field.
What you'll do#
- Greet and assist the public at the Library Registration Desk.
- Use library-specific computer software and standard office programs.
- Research using our catalogs, search systems, and databases.
- Select and prioritize collection materials for new learning tools.
- Participate in three professional development seminars and prepare a final presentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the past 12 months.
- Coursework or a degree in Library and Information Science, History, Public History, Social Science, or the Humanities.
- Experience with primary source research is helpful.
Location & details#
- Location: St Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 19 to May 23, 2027).
- Commitment: 8 to 15 hours per week.
- Schedule: Flexible, typically Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.
- Status: This is a paid, part-time, on-site position.
