About the role#
The Compliance Intern provides support to the Compliance Department through recurring tasks and special projects. You will gain exposure to federal banking regulations, regulatory examinations, and consumer protection requirements. This role offers the chance to learn how Compliance, Risk, Audit, and business units collaborate to control risk and meet regulatory obligations. You will also participate in job-shadowing opportunities across areas including BSA, Fraud, and Operational Risk.
What you'll do#
- Support compliance monitoring, administrative projects, and the development of regulatory testing and reporting resources.
- Assist with the creation of regulatory testing, checklists, and reporting structures.
- Support process improvements and the development of procedures for compliance testing.
- Research state-specific regulations and organize findings into a working reference document.
- Summarize findings on unfamiliar topics in a clear and useful format.
- Develop an understanding of the progression from regulation to bank process, control, testing, and corrective action.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Economics, or a related field.
- Completion of at least 2 years of your degree program.
- Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn new software and programs.
- Comfort researching unfamiliar subjects and summarizing findings.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and data is preferred.
- Exposure to artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, is helpful.
Location & details#
- Location: Effingham, Illinois.
- Modality: On-site at the Effingham office.
- Term: Summer 2027 (mid-May through early August).
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Compensation: $18 per hour.
