About the role#
MetOx International is looking for a Process Engineering Co-Op or Intern to join our team in Houston, Texas. This role is part of our 2027 program and offers hands-on experience with production processes, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work alongside engineers on projects related to superconducting technology. We offer two options: an internship spanning the school year and summer, or a full-time co-op from January through August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Operate characterization tools including SEM, EDX, Optical Microscopy, and XRD.
- Prepare samples using techniques like selective etching and cross section polishing.
- Conduct destructive testing such as peel tests, transport Ic, and electromechanical property tests.
- Assist process engineers with Design of Experiments (DOE), product flow tracking, and sample collection.
- Perform statistical data analysis and participate in root cause analysis and hypothesis testing.
- Verify operational accuracy during experiments and process deployments.
- Build defect tracking dashboards and monitor trends.
- Create Failure Analysis reports, SOPs, and work instructions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
- Attend project meetings and participate in safety training.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A basic understanding of process engineering principles, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma.
- Preferred: Enrollment in a Master’s or Ph.D. program.
- Preferred: Prior internship or co-op experience in process or manufacturing engineering.
- Preferred: Experience with characterization tools and statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
- Preferred: Experience working in a lab or manufacturing environment with a focus on safety.
