About the role#
As a Preconstruction Co-op at McKenney's, you will join the team from your first day. You will receive training and handle tasks that contribute to project success. This role involves learning how to estimate projects and scopes of work while working directly with vendors and subcontractors. You will support operations groups during the estimating phase and after job turnover. High-performing co-ops may lead a multi-million-dollar bid with guidance from Sales Engineers.
What you'll do#
- Assist Estimators and Sales Engineers in all phases of the bid process.
- Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to solicit material and equipment quotes.
- Review project drawings and specifications to develop estimates and proposals.
- Use software tools such as FastPIPE, FastDUCT, and Bluebeam to produce labor and materials reports.
- Attend jobsite walks to track and measure estimate performance.
- Manage and organize construction documents.
- Support preconstruction tech initiatives and represent the department to other internal teams.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited engineering program.
- Major in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Ability to complete two full-time, alternating or sequential Co-op rotations.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, drafting teams, field staff, and fabrication shops.

- Terms: Winter 2027 and Fall 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid, full-time position.
- This role does not offer sponsorship.
- Occasional jobsite visits may be required, which involve navigating active construction areas and climbing stairs or ladders.
