About the role#
This Data Engineering Co-op position supports the modernization of our data platform as we prepare for on-premises utility deployments. You will work with the Data and Microservices team to improve data quality, governance, and reliability. This is a paid, full-time role based in our Boston headquarters.
What you'll do#
- Build data quality monitoring and observability across Nexus ingestion and serving pipelines to track accuracy and consistency.
- Implement and extend data lineage tracking to visualize how data flows from ingestion through the Data API.
- Develop automated conformance checks to verify that services emit correct provenance and audit events.
- Expand audit event coverage for registry changes, reference data promotions, and data mutations.
- Validate data integrity and service behavior across cloud and on-premises deployment profiles.
- Evaluate and prototype datastore and tooling options, including time-series stores and object storage.
- Document data flows, schema designs, and architectural decisions to support team knowledge.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in SQL for data validation and troubleshooting schema inconsistencies.
- Python skills for debugging code, automating validation, and building governance checks.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and an interest in containerized, Kubernetes-based services.
- Understanding of core data engineering concepts like data modeling, database design, and pipeline architecture.
- Curiosity about data governance, provenance, and lineage.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Location & details#
- Location: Boston, Massachusetts (On-site).
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 (January 19 to August 27, 2027).
- Compensation: $25 per hour.
- This role is full-time at 40 hours per week.
