About the role#
As a Senior Technical Intern, you will work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team at Leonardo DRS. This role focuses on mid-infrared laser light technology. You will gain exposure to the full engineering cycle, from early concepts to production prototypes, while working alongside experienced engineers.
What you'll do#
- Serve as a laser and optical integration engineer.
- Design, build, and test novel laser cavities and laser-based systems.
- Develop detailed alignment procedures and create robotic scripts to automate the alignment of laser systems.
- Use Zemax to design and tolerance optical systems.
- Assist engineers with design analysis, calculations, and the gathering of data.
- Conduct limited scope testing under supervision.
- Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with engineering methods and practices.
- Support and communicate the mission and values of the organization.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an Optical or Physics engineering degree program.
- Diligent and hardworking mindset with a quick ability to learn.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build a professional network.
Location & details#
- Location: San Diego, California.
- This is a full-time, on-site internship.
- Compensation ranges from $22.67 to $32.42 per hour.
- The internship term is rolling.
