About the role#
The Computational Engineering Division is hiring a graduate intern for the Fall 2026 term. This position offers practical research experience to students pursuing a graduate degree or those who have recently completed their bachelor’s or master’s degree. You will work alongside engineers, scientists, and technical staff to support projects within computational engineering and related fields.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical and research support for computational engineering projects.
- Gather and analyze data to support scientific research.
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited supervision.
- Perform technical assignments of basic complexity.
- Present your work through formal presentations or poster sessions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a graduate student in good standing or completion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Academic achievement in aerothermal modeling and chemical kinetics of vehicles in high speed flight.
- Ability to apply computational science or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
- Experience implementing and solving structured mathematical optimization problems.
- Familiarity with technical computing packages common in your discipline, such as Pointwise, Ansys, Cart3D, US3D, Tecplot, Paraview, FIAT, ATAC, or CMA.
- Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.

- Location: Livermore, California.
- Modality: Hybrid, with the potential for remote work days.
- Employment: Full time, paid internship for the Fall 2026 term.
- Requirements: Candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Access to certain areas of the Laboratory may restrict the use of mobile and wireless devices.
