    About the role#

    The Lansing Board of Water & Light is hiring a Finance Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time, on-site position provides hands-on experience in financial analysis, benchmarking, and business planning within a municipal public utility. You will work under the mentorship of the executive and finance teams to support decision-making processes and gain exposure to utility operations.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with ongoing finance and planning projects, including process-improvement efforts.
    • Conduct benchmarking analyses to compare financial and operational performance against other agencies.
    • Support rate-class competitiveness and cost-of-service modeling.
    • Perform financial analysis and create supporting calculations, summaries, and presentations.
    • Prepare and run standard financial reports while organizing financial data.
    • Research and compile industry, financial, and operational information.
    • Coordinate internal meetings, including scheduling and material preparation.
    • Support business units by analyzing data and responding to ad hoc requests.
    • Utilize SAP, standard office software, and other internal systems.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and follow established procedures for handling sensitive information.
    • Attend required training and safety-awareness programs, following the BWL Safety Manual and using PPE when necessary.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited institution studying Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
    • Enrollment in fall 2027 classes.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • A cover letter must be submitted with your application.

    • Location: Lansing, Michigan.
    • Term: May 17, 2027, to August 13, 2027.
    • Pay: $23.00 per hour.
    • Work Modality: On-site, full-time.
    • Requirements: Must maintain predictable and reliable attendance and comply with all company policies and professional standards.
