About the role#
This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship based in Grain Valley, Missouri. You will join the production test development team to design and build a custom switch matrix for automated test equipment. This role involves the full hardware development cycle, from initial concept and circuit design to prototype validation. You will work alongside manufacturing and test engineering teams to ensure your designs meet production requirements for reliability and throughput.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop a custom switch matrix subsystem for automated production test equipment.
- Evaluate and select switching technologies, including electromechanical, reed, and solid-state relays, as well as multiplexers and analog switches.
- Create schematics and PCB layouts while developing signal routing architectures for voltage, current, resistance, and communication interface testing.
- Perform circuit simulations to verify signal integrity, switching performance, leakage current, and isolation.
- Design relay driver circuits, protection circuitry, and interface logic for microcontroller or FPGA-based systems.
- Assist with prototype assembly, bring-up, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct bench testing using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, SMUs, and LCR meters.
- Document hardware designs, test procedures, and validation results.
- Collaborate with teams to debug production hardware issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program for Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Completed coursework in circuit analysis, electronics, and digital systems.
- A solid understanding of analog and digital circuit fundamentals.
- Familiarity with schematic capture, PCB design tools, and common laboratory test equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
- Preferred: Experience with PCB fabrication, relay switching systems, automated test equipment (ATE), signal integrity, and embedded interfaces like I2C, SPI, UART, or GPIO.
