About the role#
Knight Piesold is hiring for a Summer 2027 Civil Engineer Internship. This full-time, paid position offers experience in the mining industry. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers on projects across North America and internationally. The role requires on-site work in Denver and includes travel to project and field locations as needed.
What you'll do#
- Support mining industry projects, including tailings dams, heap leach facilities, and ancillary works.
- Prepare civil layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Produce design reports and assist with proposals.
- Participate in field investigations and construction Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) activities.
- Contribute to geotechnical analyses and engineering evaluations.
- Support permitting, reclamation, and closure activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Preference for students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies.
- Proficiency in MS Office and interest in learning civil engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, and construction practices.
- Experience with Civil 3D is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to solve problems effectively.
- Capability to manage your own time, workload, and task prioritization.
- Interest in reading and understanding construction engineering plans and drawings.

- Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour.
